pearls and pugs

Vancouver Art Classes for kids

It's not quite Sunday yet but let's pretend it is because I am so excited to go hiking tomorrow. Anyway Sunday is ...favourite things. Pearls and pugs.  (they are such great pets!). Morning coffee, sun and sunlight - and anything by the lake.  Poetry, Indie films and a set of beautiful hardcover photography books by Ansel Adams that Pete found for me at a garage sale.  (I am reading 'Natural Light Photography' first and I am enthralled - in particular his section on how to photograph clouds)

There is no more beautiful illumination than that from open sky alone, including overcast and fog. The sky appears blue because of the scattering of the blue light from the sun by the minute particles in the atmosphere. In their most delicate or dramatic forms, clouds universally arouse a definite emotional response in the spectator. Consequently, no phenomenon of the natural world has been more widely photographed - and none has cause more perplexity to the photographer.
— Ansel Adams

Other favourite things..sprouted walnut pesto with HEAPS of organic basil and oodles of fresh squeezed lemon.  Watermelon. The 'Free Things' section of Craigslist because this week I was gifted the most beautiful 30 year old Jade  plant in a stunning blue terracotta planter.  Imagine!  I named her Jade and she lives in the studio by the front window.  WINDOWS!  Greek yogurt face masks (so simple, a natural exfoliant - who knew!) and my pretty vintage mood ring you may be able to spot in the photo of my desk in the studio, above.

Moon and moonlight.  Exquisite paintings.  Waterfalls and clouds.  White, grey and black and foliage in hues of evergreen.

The two lovely Grouse feathers my neighbour brought over for me today - she also has a Berenese mountain dog and Lucy likes to pop over for a dip in her baby wading pool.

Lucy's!  Rainbows.

Happy Sunday

love, always

Life is a special occasion

ravishing peonies

Pretty moments in the studio...

I kind of fell in love with this week. I drew.  I collaged.  I painted and wrote.  (a new online course coming soon by the way!)  And I bought a new gratitude journal from Banyon books on West 4th because as every knows practising gratitude rewires your brain to bring attention and presence to what is good and lovely and brilliant in your life.  FIRST. ( Before that negative spin that can ocassionally appear  sets it's teeth in your bones .) Plus it feels awesome.  We need the tonic of daily gratitude! And I LOVE having one whole journal JUST for gratitude. Here...let me share with you - Three beautiful things I am happy and so utterly grateful for today.

1.  I am grateful for my friends. The friends that filled my studio last night for an evening of painting, Peruvian Pisca's (thank you Mahala!!) glimmering yellow candles and laughter rolling like the surf all night long.  And that awesome playlist. Even the potato bugs were dancing!  And Rachelle - because that girl rocks our Blue Sky Painting Class like an Avalanche of JOY.

2.  This darling.  And MY GOD THIS FILM,  Because it's the most romantic film ever and not in the way you could ever expect.  Well, you could.  If you have been through STUFF and still ended up with LOVE - and we all have. Think about that one.

3.  For the golden clouds staring at my knees on my bicycle ride home.

And you. Yes, YOU!

love, always

ps - Oh, and Peonies and Spoonks and homemade Pizza with a handful of Basil.  Because basil makes my world go round. Sometime's I just have to make homemade pizza.

I like you better than everything in the sky

the cherry blossoms and the luminous elephant

A little bit of lovely. (beneath cherry blossoms!)  It's been such a magic making week here in the studio. We have been gathering wildflowers in the ChromaKids class (probably because they are best thing ever) and seventeen fabulous  women signed up for the "My Sweet Muse' photo e~course."  This is a luminous little subscription  - 20 days of lovely photography prompts filled with tiny poems, songs, and churchly prayers for beautiful photo's. You will be so inspired to fall in love with photography. I am so happy with this sweet offering and I know you will be too.

Here's to tunes a spinning on a Sunday, steamed Almond milk with Maca - and strawberries in a little yellow bowl.
